Public Employee Retirement is decided by the Alaska Legislature, not in our contracts.

House Bill 220 is the bill moving through the legislature that seeks to change the state's deficient Tier IV retirement.

You said you wanted to see retirement addressed. We told you that issue decided by the legislature instead of contracts. We only endorsed candidates that would support changing your retirement system for the better. They listened and introduced a bill to change it.

Our Local 71 Business Manager, Jordan Adams, provided invited testimony on this bill in January of 2022; and we alerted members by email to the public testimony opportunity on April 14th 2022 and again at the end of the legislative session.

The 2022 Legislature adjourned without the Alaska House voting on your retirement. Your Union will keep educating all elected officials as to why this change is vital to recruiting new employees and keeping the good ones that we already have.

We will only support candidates that support your workplace rights and fair wages and benefits!
