Public Employees Local 71 mourns the loss of Alaska statesman and former State Senator Johnny Ellis

Public Employees Local 71 mourns the loss of Alaska statesman and former State Senator, Johnny Ellis.

Senator Ellis was respected on all sides of the political aisle, Republicans, Democrats, Independents, and more for his dignity in debate and his sense of humor. He was also a lifelong champion of public employees, our contracts, and our workplace rights.

After retiring from the Alaska Legislature, Johnny continued to serve as a volunteer on several boards and most recently as a the chairman of the State Compensation Committee, an appointed position. Senator Ellis is known by his peers for his many quotes imparted to new legislators, especially to "Vote your conscience."

Please take a moment today to remember all that Senator Ellis has done over the years to support the working class of Alaska.
