COVID IMPACTS UNION ELECTIONS

LOCAL 71 MEMBERS UPDATE: COVID IMPACTS UNION ELECTIONS

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We continue to adjust our daily lives to the impacts of the virus response.  Mandates from all levels of government concerning travel and gatherings are impacting our meetings. We had originally intended to hold our union elections without postponement. We have now been informed that current mandates, as mentioned above, will in fact impact our timeline, because they disrupt our ability to ? with the LIUNA Constitution.

Your Local 71 Executive Board met today, and took the following actions at the direction of LIUNA Northwest:

  • April Membership Meeting - Cancelled.
  • June Shop Stewards Training - Cancelled.
  • Summer BBQs - Cancelled.
  • Nominations Meeting – Postponed to June 6th. (This action dictates Nominations Notice to be sent between May 7th – 20th.)
  • Elections Meeting – Postponed to July 28th.  (This action dictates Ballots be mailed July 5th.)

Forthcoming announcements will outline the process for nominations and voting. We are working closely with LIUNA to achieve the best access for our geographically dispersed members. We will keep you informed with any new developments.

If you have questions, please do not hesitate to call the Anchorage Hall at (907) 276-7211. Stay safe, and we’ll keep working hard for you here,

In Solidarity,

Jordan Adams
